Maintains and supports F-16 Full Mission Training Systems (MTT). System components include cockpit, image generation equipment, visual display systems, instructor operator station, and a threat generation system. Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications and enhancements to products in accordance with customer specifications. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solution. May be assisted by lower level technicians and have frequent contact with professionals and others within the establishments. Develops or reviews designs by extracting, analyzing and testing a variety of engineering data. Applies conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. Examples of designs include detailed circuit diagrams, cable design and hardware equipment. Conducts tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data, measures and records problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level; and analyzes data and prepares test reports. Applies methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects; constructs experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts tests or experiments and redesigns as necessary; and records and evaluates data and reports findings. Knowledge and experience in VME bus computer board systems and VMIC I/O digital and analog input/output chassis and components are highly desired.
Basic Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in flight simulation maintenance and support activities. Ability to understand and use Government Technical Orders for diverse aircraft systems and subsystems. Ability to interface with onsite and offsite users (Government and contractor personnel) in person and via telephone to diagnose and repair simulation subsystems. Familiarity with operation and use of simulation test and maintenance equipment (i.e. Meters, Oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering and de-soldering equipment). Familiarity with Personal Computers. A basic understanding of operating systems. Diagnose and repair hardware problems associated with simulated aircraft cockpits, instruments, and simulated visual display systems. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply information from simulator mechanical and electrical drawings.
Desired skills
Familiarity with simulated aircraft cockpits. Understanding operation and troubleshooting methods for repair of simulated cockpit displays, input/output linkages, visual display system projectors, air handling devices, and simulation networks highly desired.
Understanding operation and troubleshooting methods for network switches (managed and unmanaged), Ethernet and fiber networking equipment and topologies highly desired.
Knowledge and experience in mechanical fabrication, installation, modification, and repair including familiarity with metalworking tools related to simulators, sheet metal, cockpit frames, assembly and population of simulator electronic cabinets, cockpit panels, instruments, and displays highly desirable
