For the GS-7 level:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; OR one (1) full year of graduate level education; OR an appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; OR Superior Academic Achievement (to determine if you are eligible, go to:

As an advanced trainee, perform various assignments involving the inspections of wilderness and recreational special uses, assist with administering special use authorizations for outfitter and guides, recreation events and recreation and lands special uses; participate in wilderness patrol, participate in surveys and studies of wilderness areas, recreational facilities and trails; assist higher graded employees or supervisor in inventory and monitoring activities to determine resource conditions and develop proposals for rehabilitation plans. For the GS-9 level:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; OR two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or have received a master's or equivalent graduate degree in biological science or directly related coursework; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (beyond 18 semester hours). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Examples of specialized experience are:
Participate in the development and administration of annual work plans for wilderness, trails, special uses and recreation resources; participate in development and delivery of wilderness and other education programs in local communities; provide program input into a variety of natural resources management planning processes including NEPA; inspect the full range of wilderness and recreation special uses, administers special use authorizations for outfitter guides, and recreation events; process special use applications including on-the-ground investigations of site suitability, screening levels and preparation of associated NEPA reports; use various databases to maintain unit information in order to monitor wilderness, special uses, trails and recreation program activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:
If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
